What is a CT?

A computed tomography scan, commonly referred to as a CT scan uses X-rays to produce detailed images of organs, blood vessels and other soft tissues structures inside the body.

Depending on the reason for the CT scan, a contrast agent may be used to better visualize internal organs and tissues. Contrast is given through an IV line or by mouth.
